Reasons to use a transfer:
Poor or no carrier attach points.
Material savings (no carrier and better nesting).
Increase distance between parts for die components (cams, etc.).
Reorient part between stations (4th axis).
Less complicated dies.
Non-coil raw material (blanks, rolled sections, extruded sections).
Size and weight of part prevent practical hand transfer.
Safer. No reaching into the die as with hand transfer.
Reasons to use a progressive die:
Shorter cycle times.
Less complicated mechanics.
